1) Operate disk or tape recording machine to record music, dialog, or sound effects of phonograph recording sessions, radio broadcasts, television shows, training courses, or conferences, or to transfer transcribed material to sound-recording medium

2) Thread tape through recording device or places blank disk on turntable

3) Move lever to regulate speed of turntable

4) Place cutting stylus on record

5) Examine grooves during cutting by stylus to define if grooves are level, using microscope

6) Turn knobs on cutting arm to shift or adjust weight of stylus cause grooves to be cut evenly

7) Start recording machine and moves switches to open microphone tune in live or recorded programs

8) Listen through earphone to detect imperfections of recording machines or extraneous noises emanating from recording studio or production stage

9) Observe dials, mounted on machine, to make sure that volume level intensity remain within specified limits

10) Remove filled reel or completed recordings from machine attaches identifying labels

11) Keep record of recordings in logbook

12) May service and repair recording machines allied equipment

13) May be designated according to type of machine used as Disk-Recording-Machine Operator radio-tv broad.; recording ; Tape-Recording-Machine Operator radio-tv broad.; recording

14) When transcribing to disk used in production of phonograph records, may be designated Dubbing-Machine Operator recording

15) When recording live television programs in monochrome or color on magnetic tape is designated Videotape-Recording Engineer radio-tv broad. .
