1) Tests, dismantles, and inspects motor vehicle parts returned as defective to define cause of defects.

2) Examines unit for cracked or missing components.

3) Tests unit under simulated operating conditions for defining nature of defect, using computerized testing equipment.

4) Dismantles unit inspects components for conformance to specifications, using instruments, like micrometers, indicator gauges, hardness testers, calipers, and sine bars.

5) Determines cause of defect prepares report of findings.

6) Routes unit to department for replacement, repair, or salvage.

7) May judge validity of customers claim of defective parts or work.

8) May specialize according to type of product inspected..
