Employee Duties & Responsibilities

1) Compounds and dispenses prescribed medications, drugs, and other pharmaceuticals for patient care, according to professional standards and state federal legal requirements.

2) Reviews prescriptions issued by physician, or other authorized prescriber to assure accuracy and determine formulas ingredients needed.

3) Compounds medications, using standard formulas processes, like weighing, measuring and mixing ingredients.

4) Directs pharmacy workers engaged in mixing, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals.

5) Answers questions and provides information to pharmacy customers on drug interactions, side effects, dosage storage of pharmaceuticals.

6) Maintains established procedures concerning quality assurance, security of controlled substances, and disposal of hazardous waste drugs.

7) Enters data, like patient name, prescribed medication cost, to maintain pharmacy files, charge system, and inventory.

8) May assay medications to define identity, purity, and strength.

9) May instruct interns other medical personnel on matters pertaining to pharmacy, or teach in college of pharmacy.

10) May work in hospital pharmacy be designated Pharmacist, Hospital .
