Position Summary:

1) Examines and tests metal samples to define their physical properties, under direction of Metallographer profess. kin. .

2) Conducts routine microscopic examinations of metals alloys to determine their crystal structure, porosity, homogeneity and other characteristics.

3) Polishes or etches metal specimens photographs samples, using photomicroscope, or directs photography technical personnel to take, develop and mount photomicrographs.

4) Examines metal alloy samples with x-ray, gamma-ray, and magnetic-flux equipment to detect internal fractures, impurities, and similar defects in metals.

5) Tests samples in pressure devices, hot-acid baths, and other apparatus to determine strength, hardness, elasticity, toughness, or other properties of metal..

Minimum skills required:

  • Identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Manage own time and the time of others.
