The Meaing of MBTI - Myers-Briggs Type Indicator

MBTI stands for Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and is a categorization model for determining person types.

The name MBTI comes from Katharine Cook Briggs and her daughter Isabel Briggs Myers, who developed the model together. They did this on basis of work of Swiss psychiatrist and psychologist Carl Gustav Jung, who identified four personality forms in 1920s. Jung made a distinction among the rational, judgmental brain and irrational, contemplative brain and way in which people express this 'introverted or extroverted'.

Judging, contemplative, introverted, extroverted:

The MBTI model endorses Jung's characterization and states that each person can be characterized on basis of extent to which the person views the world in a judgmental or contemplative way in which someone expresses this in an introverted or extroverted way. This makes the MBTI model a commonly used tool to acquire insight into the personal functioning of people and it tells something about the role they play within a group.

It's an useful tool, as an example, to acquire more insight into why some people like to be in foreground, while others prefer to stay in background.
