The Meaing of Authentic Leadership

Authentic leadership intends that as a leader you're focused on building sincere, genuine relationships with your employees. This is based on idea that a leader's legitimacy is strongest when it is built on a foundation of trust and honesty. And that leadership works best when you stay close to yourself.

Authentic leadership is impossible without self-knowledge. An necessary part of authentic leadership is therefore that as a manager you carefully assess your own competencies and be sincere with yourself. What are you good at? What can be achieved better?

In addition, it's necessary that you permanently enter into a dialogue with your employees. What plans, concerns, and objectives are on your mind? By transparently containing your employees in your considerations and decisions, you involve them more and you make 'your' goals 'your' objectives.
