For 3 years I worked as Sketch Maker, My Responsibilities were to:

1) Sketch, photographs, and etches cloth designs on zinc plates in form that can be transferred to printing rollers by mechanical pantograph process, using precision measuring drawing instruments, camera, and etching chemicals

2) Study design production sheet to define number of times design will be repeated around roller, size of sketch and number of plates required to complete sketch

3) Lays out reference lines on design according to location of one complete repeat of pattern & number of plates required to sketch pattern, using straightedge pencil

4) Draw reference lines on zinc plates, using dividers, straightedge, and pencil

5) Place design under weighted door of camera moves camera up graduated scale to enlarge pattern to specifications

6) Position zinc plate on table beneath camera aligns reference lines on plate with reference lines of reflected design

7) Trace around reflected outline of design, using diamond stylus, leaving specified spacing between colors to compensate for color, type of cloth, and etching process

8) Correct flaws left in design by designer or artist, and reproduces design so that it will be practical for printing

9) Immerse sketched plate in acid solution to etch deepen lines of design

10) Wash etched plates, using water brush

11) Record number of times design will be repeated around roller, number size of plates in design, and spacings left between colors on production sheet.
