8- Be honest

As an employee, you're of course primarily responsible for the work that needs to be done. You get paid for that. In principle, the goals of the organization are paramount. What if you feel that your integrity is being compromised by those goals or by the attitude of the organization? Then it's important that you take responsibility for yourself, and possibly also for others. Particularly if the health or well-being of others is endangered and you signal that, it may be necessary to act as a 'whistleblower' and to expose abuses. Always try to do that nicely, specially if you don't want to lose all your chances of promotion.

Responsibility for your career

Sometimes your career ends up on a dead end or you're ready for a rigorous new step. Don't wait until an opportunity for change presents itself, but take the initiative to do what you want. Think about where you want to be in five years and take concrete steps to achieve that.
