1. Short and simple

Recruiters have only limited time to read motivation letters and resumes. They want to read as quickly and as clearly as possible why you want to work with them. When writing your motivation letter, it's advisable to use the KISS principle. This term stands for Keep It Short and Simple. This indicates that a message comes across best if you don't want to tell too much at the same time and the form is kept simple.

Always try to get to the heart of the matter as quickly as possible and use few difficult words or long sentences. Writing following the KISS principle can be tricky, but it's certainly bearing fruit.

2. Writing style

Not only does the content of your letter let recruiters know if you fit the company, but also the writing style. For example, sending an informally written letter to a formal company may have a negative impact on your application.

Before you start writing, it's advisable to go through the vacancy and the company's website again. By analyzing the writing style and appearance, you discover the culture of the company. By adapting your choice of words to this, you demonstrate that you have done research and that fits within the company.

3. Addition to Resume

When writing a letter it's important to remember that it's a supplement to your resume. Well-written motivation letters and resumes are complementary and reinforce each other.

Don't list everything that's already in your CV, but explain it. Explain why your education or current position makes you suitable for the vacancy. You can omit previous positions that have little in common with the vacancy because they are already mentioned in your resume. In this way you utilize the differences between the two documents and they are optimally matched.

4. Give examples

Because recruiters read a lot of motivation letters, it's important to stand out and appear credible. An effective way to do this is to give examples of your characteristics. If you have organizational talent, also give an example of this. For example, describe what events you have successfully organized and conducted.
