Delegating: By delegating tasks you ensure challenging work. The increased responsibility leads to a higher motivation for your employees, so that the chance of someone leaving is much smaller.

Jobcrafting: With jobcrafting you give employees the freedom to tinker with their own job. With a few minor adjustments, someone can often make their job more enjoyable and challenging.

3. Give appreciation and recognition

Your employees like to feel that their daily efforts matter. They get that feeling if you sufficiently acknowledge and appreciate their performance. You can show your appreciation and recognition in a large number of ways.

For example by celebrating successes together or giving compliments where they are in place. Although this is very effective, it's insufficiently used by many employers.

How do you do that?

Money or leisure: This is the traditional way to give appreciation and recognition. You then give a bonus or salary increase for achieving success. You can also have someone go home a few hours earlier.

Personal gift: A personal gift is always appreciated. Think of concert tickets for someone's favorite artist or offering a non-work-related course.

4. Stimulate growth and development

Everyone likes to work on their growth and development. This is therefore an effective method to attract and retain good employees.

If you can use all your capacities within your current position, there is little reason to look for another job. Because these options are not used everywhere, you can easily distinguish your company from the rest.

How do you do that?

Education or training: This is the most obvious way to stimulate growth and development. Make sure it makes sense and actually delivers something.

Alternative options: There are also a lot of alternative options at your disposal, such as changing jobs or tasks. These are easy to apply at relatively low costs.

5. Support the work-life balance

More and more employees are struggling with their work-life balance . This is specially true for the group of employees who work a little harder than the rest. With special facilities you ensure that they can do their job better.

This not only prevents dissatisfaction among your staff, but also reduces the chance that they will become overstrained.

Flexible working hours: This allows employees to better coordinate their working hours with important obligations in the private sphere, such as bringing and collecting school-age children.

Extra facilities: In addition to the statutory leave regulations , you have the option of offering extra facilities, such as longer leave. You can also alleviate the high costs of childcare with a financial contribution.
