The Biotechnology ( biological technology ) combines and applies science and technology to living organisms.

The biotechnology is an integrative discipline that groups of disciplines studying living beings, in order to deepen the understanding and obtain goods and services using various genetic engineering techniques for example to alter and transferring genes from one organism to another.

In recent years Biotechnology has unfolded its potential with the development of modern techniques of molecular, cellular, genetic biology (science that studies the inheritance, that is, the transmission of the characters that a living being passes to its offspring) in combination with the Engineering and also is complemented with knowledge in the fields of bioinformatics, bioethics, legislation, economics and administration.

The Biotechnology degree awards after 3 years of course (in some cases) the intermediate degree of Higher Technician in Chemistry and Biotechnology and the final degree of Biotechnology Degree, Degree in Biotechnology, or double degree such as the case of the Degree in Biotechnology and Molecular Biology . In Spanish-speaking countries, the curriculum is usually in Spanish and some curricula include subjects in English (especially for the use of specific terminology). In the majority of the Universities the Faculty that dictates this study is the Faculty of Sciences or of Biological Sciences.

The graduate has a deep knowledge of the subjects of Biological Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Genetics and Microbiology, Physics, Mathematics and Statistics and a solid formation in scientific research.
