Engineering is study and application of various branches of technology. The professional in this field is called an engineer.

The activity of the engineer involves the realization of an idea in reality. This means that, through techniques, designs and models, and with knowledge from science, engineering can solve problems and meet human needs.

Engineering also involves the application of inventiveness and ingenuity to develop a certain activity. This, of course, doesn't imply that the scientific method isn't used to carry out the plans.

Among the different tasks that an engineer can carry out is research (the search for new techniques), design, development, production, construction and operation.

On the other hand, it's important to keep in mind that engineering contemplates various branches. The genetic engineering, for example, is linked to the handling and transfer of DNA from one agency to another.

In the same way, and taking into account the important role that technologies play in our day to day, we can't ignore the discipline or scientific branch that's called computer engineering. It's responsible for working and designing solutions in communication matters that are capable of carrying out the information processing automatically.

In this sense, professional engineers must have knowledge about computing, telecommunications, software design, electronics, algorithms and formal languages ​​or virtual instrumentation, among others.

We also have to underline the forest engineering that's responsible for undertaking all kinds of studies, analysis, projects and interventions in environmental protection. Thus, it has as its object of work both mountains and wetlands, parks, fauna, roads and forest roads, hunting and fish resources or renewable energy.

And, of course, we must also highlight the aeronautical engineering that's responsible for creating and manufacturing all kinds of devices that have the ability to fly. That is, it's the one that works with airplanes, space equipment, missiles or aircraft of different types. Hence, within that branch, aerodynamics, propulsion, aeroelasticity or information take center stage.

The agricultural engineering is one that promotes the social productive development of agriculture, without neglecting natural resources.

The geological engineering is responsible for solving problems that relate to the man with the geological environment.

The commercial engineering is linked mainly to the marketing and public relations, as the engineer should be responsible for managing these kinds of issues.

Finally, we can highlight that civil engineering is the science that applies knowledge of geology, chemistry and physics to develop infrastructure and works of all kinds.
