Clinic - Term Overview


The concept of clinic is used with reference to the practice of medicine (the science dedicated to preventing, diagnosing and treating human ailments, diseases and disorders).

Historically, it's the diagnosis that is made to the patient according to the set of symptoms referred by him, and according to medical criteria and complemented with a physical and laboratory examination, taking into account that the speed with which it's carried out depends to a great extent the success of the treatment to follow.

With this notion, various expressions related to medical practice are constructed. A clinical analysis, in this framework, consists of the examination of substances or elements present in the body to establish a diagnosis.

The medical history, on the other hand, is the document that links various data that are relevant to the condition of a patient and the disease he suffers. This history provides useful information to know how the subject evolves over time and constitutes a valuable contribution in the follow-up and subsequent consultation for the doctor, being of vital importance for the treatment, since in some cases it avoids the mixture of incompatible medications between yes they can lead to death. Given the circumstance that the patient must change professional, thanks to this invaluable help, the evaluation of zero sheet should not be started since it's a permanent record of the different procedures, studies and drugs used so far.

A health center is also called a clinic. According to the dictionary of the Royal Spanish Academy ( RAE ), the term can refer to those establishments that are linked to educational institutions and that can serve outpatients or who are hospitalized in the place. It's important to highlight that in recent years, national and international prevention campaigns have been of great help in the search for an early diagnosis.

Beyond this definition, a clinic is also any private health center that offers various services related to patient care. In the clinics, diagnoses and treatments are carried out. Due to these characteristics, clinics can be compared to hospitals, the former being generally very modern centers with highly complex, state-of-the-art devices for diagnosis and subsequent treatment, with advances in technology available on the market.

An example of a clinic is the Mayo Clinic, founded in 1889 in the American city of Rochester. It has subsidiaries in Phoenix, Scottsdale and Jacksonville, as well as agreements with establishments in Wisconsin, Iowa and Minnesota.
