Writing a catchy vacancy text is a job in itself. You're faced with all kinds of challenges. For example, how do you stand out among the thousands of online job advertisements? How do you position your company with the target group? And how do you attract the best candidates?

Tips for your vacancy text

1. Focus on the candidate

Take your ideal new employee in mind and write the vacancy text specially for him. For that it's necessary to crawl into the skin of the perfect candidate . Ask yourself in what kind of company he works and what he does now. But also, for example, what activities he likes and what ambitions he has. What does he expect from an employer?

2. Include important information

Many people search on the location of a job and on 'full-time' or 'part-time'. Therefore always include this important information in the vacancy text. Important places are the title and URL. Avoid (if possible) a vague web address.

3. Choose a striking job title

The perfect employee, who wants to recruit every employer. So make sure you immediately stand out among all online job advertisements. You do that with a job title that appeals to your target group. Ask your own staff to think about a stimulating job title. The more catchy and concrete the title, the more it appeals to potential candidates. And the better your vacancy is picked up by search engines.

4. Write a relevant intro

The first lines of online articles play an important role. It's often this text that appears in the search results just below the title. The more relevant the intro, the better search engines rate it and the greater the chance that a potential candidate clicks it to continue reading.

Many job vacancies start with sentences such as: '... is a leader in the transport industry. Due to the expansion of our activities, we are looking for a proactive jack-of-all-trades. " A missed opportunity, because in this case relevant information is missing, such as the job title.

5. Describe the position in concrete terms

Before someone applies, he would like to know what the position actually entails. Describe the vacancy as concrete as possible. What does a day in the life of your new employee look like? Who does he work with? What makes this feature unique? You can then comment on the culture of your company.

6. Write short and powerful

A good job description doesn't tell too much, but certainly not too little either. A good starting point is a text of approximately 250 words, just over half of an A4 sheet. Get straight to the point and stimulate the reader's attention from the very first word.

7. Use subheadings

Search engines not only look at the title and the URL, but also at the headers. Choose informative headers that tell you what the paragraphs are about. So not a headline like 'The job', but 'What do you do as a bartender?' Search engines appreciate this and the reader knows at a glance what the text is about.

8. Add a list

With a summary you can briefly and briefly inform the reader about important matters. You immediately attract attention. The job requirements lend themselves well to such a list. The reader can then quickly check whether he is eligible for the job. Search engines also appreciate this, making your vacancy easier to find online.

9. Use relevant search terms

Keep in mind what your ideal candidate is looking for. Which search terms would he use in his online search? Ask this question to your employees to get ideas. Or search for alternative terms and synonyms yourself. You can name these terms a number of times in your text to increase findability.

10. Seduce candidates to apply

Ultimately, you only have one goal: to seduce the perfect candidate to apply to you. Make responding as easy and accessible as possible. What must he do to qualify for the position? Can he approach someone for more information? To whom does he address his letter of motivation? Above all, don't forget to create a sense of urgency by mentioning a deadline for response.
