An Irresistible Resume

Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on LinkedIn

I enjoy helping job seekers to present themselves strongly in the labor market. Writing an irresistible resume is also within reach for you. To start with, I offer you a handy Personal Branding Step-by-step plan from which you can prepare your resume.

NO UTOPIA

A resume that is made for you, that reflects your unique talents, that is read with a smile by every recruiter and that invites you to a job interview ... a utopia? No, it's not. Good preparation is half the battle and it's important to abandon all your usual views about a resume. Will you succeed?

PERSONAL BRANDING STEP-BY-STEP PLAN

To get an irresistible resume, I recommend following the steps below. You map who you are, what you want, what you can do well and how you want to achieve that. You must include the answers to the questions in your resume.

WHAT DO YOU RADIATE?

Personal branding is about your personal image. The difficult thing is that you don't determine your personal image yourself. Others do that. You only decide what you radiate and transfer. That is why it's important to think carefully about your unique characteristics, the total package with which you want to leave a positive impression on others. Your personal 'brand' as it were.

STEP 1: SELF-ANALYSIS

The very first step is to analyze yourself. That sounds more complicated than it is. Many simple tests are offered on the internet that can give you more self-knowledge. There are both free tests and paid tests. For example, search for "group role test", "competence test", "career selection test" or "personal swot analysis". In addition:

- Ask yourself "who are you?" and " what do you want to achieve ?"
- Stand out from others
- Make an ' Elevator Pitch ': a mini presentation of 30 seconds and a maximum of 100 words about who you are, what you do and what you can do for the other

STEP 2: CREATE YOUR PERSONAL BRAND

Google your own name and see what appears in the search results. Is this in line with what you want to radiate?

- Don't act differently than you really are
- Spread your personal brand on social networking sites such as LinkedIn , Twitter and Facebook
- Set up your personal brand through a personal website or blog
- Present yourself with photos, videos and presentations through YouTube , Flickr and Slide-share , for example

STEP 3: COMMUNICATE YOUR PERSONAL BRAND

- Transfer your personal brand to the outside world, online and face-to-face
- Keep your own blog and write about topics that concern you
- Put yourself at the top of the Google search results by experimenting with SEO or your own advertising campaign
- Use your Elevator Pitch in conversations
- Visit network events
- Be an expert speaker at an event
- Write a book to convey your message

STEP 4: MANAGE YOUR PERSONAL BRAND

- Always keep your personal brand up-to-date
- Make sure all your online profiles are up to date
- Monitor your personal brand via, for example, Google Alert, Twitter Search , or Friendfeed

YOU DETERMINE THE SHAPE YOURSELF

You decide how you want your resume to look exactly. The most important thing is that your resume fits who you are . So there are no standard rules. You will at least want to say something about your work experience, education, competencies, goals and ambitions and about your own personal brand. Keep in mind that a very pronounced resume also provokes pronounced responses. Sometimes it happens that your environment, thanks to a mixture of fear and a conservative attitude, can only speak negatively about your new resume. Don't let this fool you and stay open to constructive criticism, but keep your own goals and dreams in mind.

Good luck!
