Five Tips For Using the Talents in Your Team

Tip 1. Learn to make optimal use of each other's qualities and talents

That sounds nice and the vast majority of the people I speak with agree. Only how do you do this?

From Personal & Business Improvement we start as objectively as possible. We start with a personality test for each team member. Including the manager. From this we extract the qualities and talents that are subsequently discussed with each other. It's fantastic to see how team members complement each other to explain those qualities and talents through concrete examples. In this way, your team will gain insight into each other's qualities and talents more quickly.

The next step is to learn to use each other's qualities and talents. Using pre-designed cases and examples from the past, we discuss what the best approach could be using the knowledge you have of each team member.

Tip 2. Encourage team members to take initiatives and discover new things.

Also give them the opportunity and space to further develop their own ideas and proposals.

The combination of talents is what makes someone unique. It's what distinguishes him from the others. You have and can develop talents. Working from talent gives pleasure and makes people happy. If you want the right person in the right place, you need to give your team members the opportunity to do what they are good at or have a passion for. Start from the qualities of someone.

For example, you can make people responsible for a particular project or certain tasks. Have them make a proposal about how they will handle that project and who will carry out which tasks. In this way they can show (or develop) their talents and make optimal efforts for the result.

Tip 3. Get more mutual understanding.

This remains a challenge for many people.

Start with yourself. Give the best possible feedback and handle the feedback that you get. Most people have the crux of that in my experience. In the articles " How do you give feedback? And " How do you receive feedback and criticism? Describes how you can best approach this.

You will gain understanding for each other and better understand the motives of each other. this is a major step towards effective collaboration and communication.

Tip 4. Make sure you know the motives, personal ambitions and interests of your team members.

Observe your team members. Talk to them. Do they have a hobby? What do they do in their spare time? What make their eyes glisten? If an employee has a talent for something and enjoys doing it, he will be happy to develop further. If you know the motives and interests of your employees, you can challenge and motivate them to formulate and realize common objectives, in which each employee can use and develop their own talents. This also has a positive contribution to team happiness and effectiveness.

Tip 5. Be clear about organizational objectives and the expectations of your employees for the coming years.

Create clarity about the developments of the organization and the results to be achieved. Share what you expect from your team members. Indicate what's needed and link it to qualities and talents in your team that are needed to achieve these objectives. Invite your team members to indicate what contribution they think they can make. Who best suits certain tasks and projects? People who work from talents feel happier and take more responsibility. They get enthusiastic, think proactively and go the extra mile. This creates a positive energy and a stronger group feeling and more connection with each other. In addition, they have more resistance and can withstand stress better.
