Automatic Stacker Occupation

  • Place dollies at discharge end of automatic stacker to catch tin sheets emerging from processing machines

Job Duties:

  • Inspect and tests metal cans for imperfections, using scaler measuring devices
  • Pull samples of tinplate or aluminum sheeting can bodies ends from production lines and inspects them for surface flaws in metal, defective seams and machining defects, like scratches, burrs and dents
  • Measure sample, using micrometer or gauges, to verify dimensions
  • Record results of inspection in log for each machine
  • Stop production line when inspection reveals need for corrective maintenance
  • Test cans for bursting strength, using hot oil-pressure tank

Job Duties:

  • Inspect and repairs rejected tin cans tin-can parts
  • Inspect parts for defects, like scratches, dents, nicks and punctures and sorts parts according to type of defect
  • Place can parts over die of straightening fixture & depresses pedal that forces curving plate against die to remove dents or places can body over form and reshapes flanges side walls, using rubber hammer
  • Test cans for leaks, using pressure tester [Testing-Machine Operator tinware ]
  • Solder holes in seams, using gas flame hand-soldering iron
  • Clean can parts with damp cloth, water, or solvent
  • Record source, type, and disposition of reprocessed cans and places cans can parts in carton

  • May observe decorated cans emerging from oven remove cans with defects, like faulty printing, malformed seams, or foreign materials.

Can Technician Occupation

Coating Mixer Occupation

Job Duties:

  • Tend agitator machines that mix compounds used to line coat tin cans
  • Measure and pours specified amounts of concentrates solvents into barrel of solution, using measuring can
  • Lower agitator into barrel starts machine to mix solution
  • Test viscosity of solution with viscosimeter adds solvent or concentrates to obtain specified consistency
  • Start pump that forces mix from barrel into storage tank through feed lines into coating machine reservoirs
  • Raise stacks barrels on racks, using chain hoist, and transports them to mixing room with handtrucks
  • Keep stock control records.

Compound coating machine Offbearer Occupation

Job Duties:

  • Remove tin can ends from discharge rack of coating machine
  • Inspect rubber base coating compound on can ends ring-pull for conformity to specifications
  • Notify Punch-Press Setter any industry of machine jam or defects in can ends
  • Pack ends in cartons or paper bags places containers on pallet.
