List of Career Duties Under Rubber Tire Business Sector

Retread mold Operator

  • Tend retreading mold that vulcanizes camelback raw rubber tread onto tire casing molds tread design
  • Place air bag of specified size inside tire, using tire-spreading device and clamps tire into mold
  • Inflate air bag to specified pressure & heats mold to specified temperature to cook mold tread
  • Remove tire after predetermined time trims loose ends from molded tread, using knife.

Retread Supervisor

  • Supervise workers engaged in vulcanizing, retreading, and recapping automobile tires
  • Perform duties as described under Supervisor any industry Master Title.

Squeegee Tender

  • Tend unit of band building machine that rolls squeegee gum strip onto ply stock
  • Lift rolls of gum strip and squeegee onto letoff rods of machine threads stock through series of guide rollers
  • Lift bias-cut ply stock from conveyor to apron of machine
  • Turn setscrews to adjust apron guide and provide even application of squeegee gum on ply stock
  • Start machine to run squeegee and gum onto ply stock to accumulate ply stock in festoon for Band Builder rubber tire
  • Splice each succeeding section of ply stock to previous one by hand to form continuous strip.

Supervisor

  • Supervise and coordinates activities of workers engaged in manufacturing rubber tires tubes
  • Inspect products in process for making sure adherence to specifications
  • Perform other duties as described under Supervisor any industry Master Title
  • May be designated according to process involved as Bead Supervisor rubber tire , Curing Supervisor rubber tire , Millroom Supervisor rubber tire , Rubber-Compounder Supervisor rubber tire , Stock-Preparation Supervisor rubber tire , Tire-Building Supervisor rubber tire , Tire-Finishing Supervisor rubber tire , Tire-Room Supervisor rubber tire , Tube-Room Supervisor rubber tire .

Tire Balancer

  • Inspect cured tires for conformance to balance specifications
  • Lift tire onto balance table manually or with hoist
  • Pull lever to spread holding fixture that secures tire in position
  • Release lock that permits balance table to float freely on mounting bubble gauge to function
  • Observe bubble gauge to define if tire balance is within specified limits
  • Mark tire where gauge indicates lightest area, for location of inner-tube valve
  • Lays aside unacceptable tires lifts acceptable tires onto conveyor
  • May affix identification labels on acceptable tires.

Tire bladder Maker

  • Fabricate bladders used in tire curing presses, performing any of following duties
  • Brush rubber cement on ends of skived rubber stock splices stock into ring shape, using press to fuse ends
  • Remove spliced stock weighs it on preset scale to ascertain conformance to specifications
  • Place ring in press that forms cures bladder
  • May place spliced ring in stock preheater to soften it prior to molding
  • Dips cured bladder in water tank to cool it after molding
  • Trim smooths bladder, using knife, hot knife, and hand buffer
  • Bolt steel fittings, used to attach bladder to curing press, to finished bladder, using handtools.

Tire Builder Automobile

  • Build pneumatic tires on collapsible drum device from rubber components, like beads, ply stock, tread, and sidewalls
  • Position ply stitcher rollers and drum according to width of stock, using handtools gauges
  • Rubs cement stick on drum edge to provide adhesive surface for plies
  • Pull ply from supply rack aligns with edge of drum
  • Depress pedal to rotate drum, winds specified number of plies around drum to form tire body
  • Cuts ply at splice point presses ends together to form continuous band
  • Brush solvent onto ply to make sure adhesion repeats process as specified, alternating direction of each ply to strengthen tire
  • Push switch to move bead setters that press prefabricated beads onto plies and to position rollers that turn edges of plies under over beads
  • Wind chafers breaker onto plies
  • Align tread with guide, Starts drum to wind tread onto plies, and splices ends
  • Start rollers that bond tread plies as drum revolves
  • Depress pedal to collapse drum lifts tire onto conveyor
  • May turn ends of plies under over beads with steel rod
  • May build heavy-service or limited production tires for aircraft, trucks, or equipment be designated Tire Builder, Heavy Service rubber tire .

Tire Classifier

  • Examine defective tires rejected by Tire Inspector rubber tire to define extent of repair disposition of tires
  • Segregate tires according to defects, like spread cords, ply separations, buckles and blisters and sends them to Tire Repairer rubber tire
  • Probe defects with handtools for defining extent of damage
  • Prepare daily report of defects
  • Recommend disposal of nonrepairable tires
  • May repair minor defects, like puncturing blisters or applying patches, to prepare tires for storage.

Tire Molder

  • Cement gum rubber patch into cutout to build up defective area
  • Roll down patch with hand stitcher punctures air pockets in patch to remove trapped air
  • Buff trims excess patch rubber from tire
  • Replace treads by cutting defective tread from plies, buffing ply surface, and cementing new tread onto plies
  • May tend vulcanizing machine to cure patch on tire for specified time
  • May replace imprinting plates on electronic replating machine to change or clarify markings on tire.
