Detail Maker And Fitter Occupation

Job Duties:

Job Duties:

  • Cast finishes plaster patterns used in making precision sand molds for dies, tools, and machine parts, according to specifications
  • Construct boxlike enclosure around part to be cast, filling in cracks openings with clay
  • Lubricate surface with parting agent that prevents plaster from sticking to part
  • Mix plaster pours it into enclosure
  • Reinforce plaster with hemp fiber small steel rods or heavy wire
  • Remove hardened plaster cast from enclosure
  • Patch broken edges fractures, using clay or plaster

Job Duties:

  • Cast plastic reproductions of models, patterns, and prototype parts

  • Brush or sprays surface of section with parting agent to prevent plastic from sticking to surface
  • Cast part, using either of following methods
  • 1 Brushes plastic facing coat on section of part to be cast
  • Mix plastic resin brushes thin, uniform coat over facing coat
  • Cuts fiberglass cloth to approximate size of cast places it over resin
  • Brush cloth to smooth it, applies additional coat of resin, and repeats procedure until alternate layers of fiberglass resin are built up to specified thickness
  • 2 Brushes plastic facing coat on section of part to be cast, mixes plastic resin, and pours it into enclosure until cast is of specified thickness
  • Remove hardened cast from section
  • File, grinds, and sands cast to remove jagged edges to cut cast down to specified dimensions
  • Form base and bracing structure to support cast, using handtools liquid adhesive
  • May assemble casts to produce completed model, pattern, or prototype
  • May bolt or otherwise fasten metal inserts to casts at specified points.

Spotter Occupation

Job Duties:

  • Locate marks specified drilling position on surfaces of diamonds used as dies
  • Place diamond under microscope moves it at various angles until clear channel through gem can be seen
  • Form indentation in diamond surface to mark spot for drilling, using diamond chips held in pliers
  • Drill starting hole of minute dimensions, using electrically powered hand drill.
