Bench Metal Patternmaker Occupation

Job Duties:

  • Fits, assembles, and hand finishes castings and parts in making of metal foundry patterns, using handtools analyzing specifications according to knowledge of pattern-making methods
  • Study blueprint of part to be cast, computes dimensions and plans sequence of operations
  • Dress casting down to specified dimensions, using files, scrapers, powered hand grinders and drill press
  • Assemble pattern, using handtools bolts, screws, and other fasteners
  • Verify conformance of pattern dimensions to specifications, using templates measuring instruments, like scale, calipers, and micrometer
  • May make templates for own use in inspecting finished surfaces [Template Maker any industry ]

Boiler Reliner Plastic Block Occupation

Job Duties:

  • Reline furnace with plastic block refractory material, using handtools
  • Remove worn or damaged lining, using handtools
  • Measure furnace wall cuts required number of sheets from plastic block, using saw
  • Drill holes in wall bolts overlapping layers of plastic to walls
  • Hammer surface to compress layers into solid sheet.

Bondactor machine Operator Occupation

Job Duties:

  • Spray interior surfaces of cupolas with refractory mixture to reline interiors, using spray equipment
  • Load specified amount of material, like clay, sand and water into mixing tank of machine starts machine to mix ingredients
  • Install preformed metal scaffolding in interior of cupola, using handtools
  • Open compressed-air valves on machine to force mixture into hose, climbs scaffolding with hose, and sprays surfaces
  • May chip clay from interior of cupola, lay bed of cupola, or repair ladle linings.

Bonder Occupation

Job Duties:

  • Tend machine that bonds cope drag together to form completed shell mold
  • Turn dials of shell-mold bonding machine to heat upper pressure plate set pressure stroke of ram as specified
  • Position drag onto lower pressure plate of machine
  • Fill vibrator pan with bonding agent, and pushes button to sift bonding agent onto edge of drag
  • Position cope on drag, and pushes button or pulls lever which pushes hot plate onto cope to heat compress cope to drag
  • Knock out sprue holes with iron rod
  • Direct airhose onto mold to blow out loose sand
  • May tend machine that automatically releases pressure after specified period of time

Cast shell Grinder Occupation

Job Duties:

  • Clean rough finishes surfaces of casting, using powered grinding wheel mounted on counterbalanced frame
  • Position casting under grinding wheel manually or using crane or hoist
  • Grab grinder handles pulls wheel down against casting to remove projections, like gates, fins and parting lines, from surface
  • Reposition casting to grind other areas
  • May change position of belts on motor pulleys to increase revolutions per minute when grinding wheel wears down
  • May remove cracks in surfaces of ingots, billets, and forgings, using grinder
  • May grind castings, using stationary grinder be designated Stand Grinder foundry .

Job Duties:

  • Operate centrifugal casting machine to cast artillery barrels
  • Grind rough spots from inside of mold with grinding wheel mounted on end of long rod
  • Fill pits on inside surface of mold with refractory material
  • Fits refractory stoppers into ends of mold
  • Mount pouring box, which serves as funnel for pouring melt from furnace into mold, on special frame at breech end of mold fits spout of box through hole in stopper
  • Start machine rotating at specified speed
  • Direct Overhead Crane Operator any industry 921.663-010 in positioning portable furnace containing melt for pouring, and pushes electric controls to tilt furnace pour melt into pouring box
