Job Duties:

  • Plan, directs, and coordinates district operations of Christmas tree farm
  • Plan activities of district according to executive directives, budget, projected sales volume and other guidelines
  • Negotiate contracts for lease of private lands for farming and purchase of wild uncultivated trees for harvesting

Job Duties:

  • Plant, cultivates, and harvests evergreen trees on Christmas-tree farm

  • Plant seedlings, using mattock or dibble [Tree Planter forestry ]
  • Scatter fertilizer pellets over planted areas by hand
  • Shear tops and limb tips from trees, using machete pruning shears, to control growth, increase limb density, and improve shape
  • Select trees for cutting according to markings or size, specie, and grade, and fells trees, using ax or chain saw
  • Drag cut trees from cutting area, and loads trees onto trucks
  • May be designated according to seasonal task performed.

Christmas tree Grader Occupation

Job Duties:

  • Grade tags trees in sorting yard of Christmas tree farm
  • Gauge height of tree, using marked increments on conveyor belt
  • Turn tree, examines limbs & foliage for color growth pattern and determines grade according to standards chart
  • Staple color-coded grade tags to tree limbs, using hand stapler.

Fire Crew Worker Occupation

Job Duties:

  • Suppress forest fires, working alone or as member of crew
  • Fell trees, cuts and clears brush, digs trenches and extinguishes flames embers to contain or suppress fire, using ax, chain saw, shovel and hand- or engine-driven water pumps
  • Patrol burned area after fire to watch for hot spots that may restart fire
  • When leading directing fire-fighting activities of a crew of workers, may be designated Suppression-Crew Leader forestry .

Fire Lookout Occupation

Job Duties:

  • Locate and reports forest fires weather phenomena from remote fire-lookout station
  • Maintain surveillance from station to detect evidence of fires observe weather conditions
  • Locate fires on area map, using azimuth sighter & known landmarks, estimates size characteristics of fire and reports findings to base camp by radio or telephone
  • Observe instruments and reports daily meteorological data, like temperature, relative humidity, wind direction velocity, and type of cloud formations
  • Relay messages from base camp, mobile units, and law enforcement and governmental agencies relating to weather forecasts, fire hazard conditions, emergencies, accidents, and location of crews personnel
  • Explain state federal laws, timber company policies, fire hazard conditions, and fire prevention methods to visitors of forest
  • Maintain records logbooks.

Fire Ranger Occupation

Job Duties:

  • Patrol assigned area of forest to locate and report fires and hazardous conditions and to make sure compliance with fire regulations by travelers campers
  • Hike or drives to vista points to scan for fires unusual or dangerous conditions
  • Report findings & receives relays emergency calls, using telephone or two-way radio
  • Visit camping sites to inspect activities of campers and ensure compliance with forest use fire regulations
  • Give instructions regarding sanitation, fire, and related forest regulations
  • Extinguish smaller fires with portable extinguisher, shovel, and ax
  • Serve as crew leader for larger fires
  • Render assistance or first aid to lost or injured persons
  • Participate in search for lost travelers or campers.

Fire Warden Occupation

Job Duties:

  • Administer fire prevention programs and enforces governmental fire regulations throughout assigned forest logging areas
  • Inspect logging areas and forest tracts for fire hazards, like accumulated wastes, hazardous storage or mishandling of fuels solvents, defective engine exhaust systems and unshielded electrical equipment
  • Examine & inventories water supplies and firefighting equipment, like axes, firehoses, pumps, buckets and chemical fire extinguishers for defining condition, amount, adequacy and placement of materials with respect to governmental regulations company rules
  • Prepare reports of conditions observed, issues directives instructions for correcting violations, and reinspects areas to verify compliance
  • Direct maintenance and repair of firefighting tools and equipment and requisitions new equipment materials to replace expended, lost, and broken items or add to inventory as required
