Batch still Operator Occupation

Job Duties:

  • Tend batch stills to separate, by distillation, liquids having divergent volatilization temperatures
  • Pour specified types quantities of materials into still
  • Observe thermostat & sets controls on instrument panel to maintain specified volatilization temperatures throughout distillation cycle to control condensation of components
  • Draw samples of distilled liquids for laboratory analysis or performs refractometric or other tests, using standard procedure equipment
  • Observe color of distillate to define when distillate is completed
  • Record operating data, like weight, yield of products, gauge readings, and number of batches distilled
  • May tend continuous-flow vacuum still
  • May be designated according to product distilled or formed as Ammonia-Still Operator chemical , Crystallizer Operator chemical Ii, Degreasing-Solution Reclaimer chemical , Glycerin Operator soap rel. .

Beehive Kiln Charcoal Burner Occupation

Job Duties:

  • Operate series of beehive kilns to produce charcoal
  • Place kindling in kiln starts fire
  • Seal top of kiln when specified heat is attained, using cement hand trowel
  • Observe color of smoke as it issues through draft holes in kiln bottom to make sure burning of charcoal as specified
  • Open closes draft holes, using bricks, to regulate forming of charcoal
  • Seal draft holes cracks in kiln with cement to smother fire when charcoal has been formed.

Beehive Kiln Supervisor Occupation

Job Duties:

  • Supervise coordinates activities of workers engaged in tending woodburning kilns that produce charcoal at briquette manufacturing establishment
  • Examine supply of cordwood to define weight, size and quality of wood to be loaded into kilns, instructs workers in loading kilns
  • Start fire in kiln fuel boxes and directs workers to seal doors adjust flue controls to regulate woodburning process
  • Supervise removal transporting of charcoal from kilns to storage or shipping areas
  • May purchase cordwood from woodcutters at plant site for use in making charcoal
  • Perform other duties as described under Supervisor any industry Master Title.

Beeswax Bleacher Occupation

Job Duties:

  • Tend vats filter presses to bleach wax used in candlemaking
  • Measure and dumps specified chemicals & wax into vats turns thermostat knob to prescribed temperature to liquefy wax
  • Pack granulated charcoal on sides of filter press starts pump to circulate molten wax through press
  • Stop pump after specified time drains sample for laboratory analysis
  • Turn valves or starts pumps to transfer wax from press to tanks
  • Record types quantities of wax used.

Billet Assembler Occupation

Job Duties:

  • Assemble uranium fuel elements for subsequent extrusion in atomic fuel plant
  • Read production schedule to ascertain number and size of uranium fuel elements to be assembled percentage of uranium to be used in each fuel element
  • Place components, like copper & zirconium sleeves, uranium billets and end plates in basket and immerses filled basket in chemical rinsing solutions to clean grease, dirt, scale and other foreign matter from components, using crane
  • Transfer baskets of components to drier, using crane, and starts blower unit that circulates air to remove moisture from components
  • Convey components to assembly table, using crane
  • Position components together in specified relationship to form fuel element subassembly
  • Secure subassembly on rotating base of welding equipment, and welds sections to seal assembly, using argon-gas welding equipment
  • Connect sealed fuel element valve to pump activates pump to create vacuum in fuel element to prevent oxidation of element during extrusion process
  • Connect fuel element to helium leak detector observes dial readings to detect deviations from standards for each element
  • Reweld retests defective fuel elements.

Biological plant Operator Occupation

Job Duties:

  • Control fermentation chambers tanks to produce enzymes from fungal or bacterial growth for use as industrial catalysts
  • Sprinkle seed from hand container into mixing drum containing culture medium, like bran and starts drum revolving for specified time to disperse seed throughout medium
  • Open drum to discharge batch into tubs and shovels batch onto trays
  • Place trays on racks pushes them into growing chambers
  • Sets thermostats, observes pressure gauges meters, and moves controls to maintain specified atmospheric conditions that promote growth of culture
  • Examine batch for contamination by smell, touch, or observation, using knowledge of fermentation reactions
  • Remove trays from chamber after specified time
  • Dump contents onto conveyor that transfers material through delumping machine into portable tanks
  • Position tanks under water faucets opens valves to flush enzymes through sieve
  • Turn valve to siphon solution through series of portable tanks into head tank
  • Test extraction for specific gravity, acidity, and alkalinity, using hydrometer and litmus paper, adds specified salts, acids, or bases
  • May start centrifuge to separate solids from product.

Black mill Operator Occupation

Job Duties:

  • Tend furnace shaker screens to produce boneblack animal charcoal from ground bones
  • Turn dial on control panel to start feed of ground bones to furnace turns handwheel to adjust oscillating speed of shaker screens to maintain uninterrupted production
  • Observe recording thermometer to verify specified temperature in furnace
  • Inspect conveyors, vibrating feeders, and shaker screens for clogging or malfunction
  • Tighten drive belts, using wrenches other handtools
  • Give directions to other workers in spreading boneblack over cooling floor in loading cooled boneblack onto conveyors.

Black Powder Glazing Operator Occupation

Job Duties:

  • Feed grain powder, graphite, and other materials into glazing barrels
  • Dump specified amounts of graphite, grain powder and other ingredients into mechanically rotated glazing barrels that smooth out lubricate powder
  • Open barrel door to discharge contents into containers
  • May time rotation glazing period, using watch.

Bleach Packer Occupation

Job Duties:

  • Start conveyors that automatically convey slaked lime to chlorinating chamber where it is transformed into bleaching powder
  • Spread lime uniformly over chamber floor, using shovel or wood spreader and rakes spread lime to furrow layer, exposing maximum surface area for chlorination
  • Shovel bleaching powder through chutes into containers and closes containers preparatory to storage or shipment.

Bleach Supervisor Occupation

Job Duties:

  • Supervise coordinates activities of workers engaged in processing lime to produce bleaching powder
  • Perform duties as described under Supervisor any industry Master Title.
