  • May remove toe-wire and tacks from lasted shoes, using tack puller pincers.

Anchor Tacker Occupation

Job Duties:

  • Tend nailing, slugging, stapling, or tacking machine that attaches shoe parts, like heel, insole, and shank to partially assembled shoes
  • Align parts on bed of machine, or positions them under machine head
  • Depress pedal that lowers holding device, or holds parts against guide
  • Depress pedal or lever that drives fasteners into parts
  • Fill hopper of nailing or tacking machine, or replaces wire spool on spindle of slugging or stapling machine
  • May brush cement onto parts prior to joining
  • May be designated according to part joined as Heeler, Machine boot and shoe , Insole Tacker boot and shoe , Ornament Stapler boot and shoe , Top-Lift Nailer boot shoe

Ankle patch Molder Occupation

Job Duties:

  • Operate electrically heated machine to mold plastic trademark ankle patch onto quarters for sneakers
  • Pour liquid plastic into feeder tank
  • Lift plate cover, equipped with two die openings for simultaneous molding of right left quarters
  • Slide dies into holders, tightens screws replaces plate, using wrench
  • Start machine presses button to blow air through sprue holes in dies to clear openings
  • Brush silicone on dies to prevent sticking
  • Position right left quarters over die openings on plate with edges against guide pins
  • Press buttons to lower rams onto quarters, inject plastic to fill dies, and mold patches
  • Examine molded pieces for defects, like insufficient plastic, lack of adhesion to cloth, discoloration, or unclear imprint, and rejects defective pieces
  • Clean adhering plastic from die grooves sprue holes, using metal pick
  • Adjust rheostat to vary heat setting, according to size of die to correct defects.

Antisqueak Applier Occupation

Job Duties:

  • Apply liquid coating to shoe parts, or cements cushioning material between parts, to prevent squeaking due to friction or wear
  • Brush coating of liquid chalk, paraffin, or wax on parts, like heel bases, flares and outsoles.

Antisqueak Chalker Occupation

Job Duties:

  • Apply liquid coating to shoe parts, or cements cushioning material between parts, to prevent squeaking due to friction or wear
  • Brush coating of liquid chalk, paraffin, or wax on parts, like heel bases, flares and outsoles.

Antisqueak Filler Occupation

Job Duties:

  • Apply liquid coating to shoe parts, or cements cushioning material between parts, to prevent squeaking due to friction or wear
  • Brush coating of liquid chalk, paraffin, or wax on parts, like heel bases, flares and outsoles.

Apex Trimmer Occupation

Job Duties:

  • Tend machine that trims sole and heel edges of lasted shoes to remove excess material to impart finished appearance
  • Position guides edges against revolving cutter to trim them
  • May replace cutters or guides, using handtools

Archer Occupation

Job Duties:

  • Operate machine to mold outsoles or insoles to conform to shoe last at shank arch
  • Turn thumbscrews or moves lever along calibrated dial to adjust last size guides to specifications
  • Sponge grained surface of sole at arch to soften leather
  • Position sole on die against guides
  • Pull lever to lower mold that presses sole against die, shaping arch shank
  • Replace dies molds when last or shoe sizes change.

Assembler For Puller over Hand Occupation

Job Duties:

  • Insert cement covered counter between lining shoe upper to prepare upper for further lasting operations
  • Place counter on wire screen, dips screen in liquid cement and drains excess cement from counter
  • Position last on pin jack
  • Insert counter between lining upper
  • Pull shoe upper onto last aligns back seam of upper with guide marks on last
  • Tack upper to last, using lasting tool.

Assembler For Puller over Machine Occupation

Job Duties:

  • Tend machine that tacks shoe parts to last, to prepare shoe upper for further lasting
  • Place counter tip support box toe on rack, immerses rack in liquid cement and drains excess cement from parts
  • Insert precemented parts between lining upper
  • Pull aligns upper on last
  • Sets last on pin jack of machine
  • Push pin jack and upper into machine that tacks upper to last at heel seam heel seat.
