CAREER TASKS - DUTIES, ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This job description (JD) describes the core job duties of physiotherapist occupation:

MAIN JOB ROLES (CAREER TASKS):

1) Plans and administers medically prescribed physical therapy treatment for patients suffering from injuries, or muscle, nerve, joint bone diseases, to restore function, relieve pain, and prevent disability.

2) Reviews physicians referral prescription and patients condition medical records to define physical therapy treatment required.

3) Tests & measures patients strength, motor development, sensory perception, functional capacity and respiratory and circulatory efficiency, records findings to develop or revise treatment programs.

4) Plans prepares written treatment program based on evaluation of patient data.

5) Administers manual exercises to improve maintain function.

6) Instructs, motivates, and assists patient to perform various physical activities, like nonmanual exercises, ambulatory functional activities, daily-living activities, and in use of assistant supportive devices, like crutches, canes, and prostheses.

7) Administers treatments involving application of physical agents, using equipment, like hydrotherapy tanks and whirlpool baths, moist packs, ultraviolet infrared lamps, and ultrasound machines.

8) Evaluates effects of treatment at various stages adjusts treatments to achieve maximum benefit.

9) Administers massage, applying knowledge of massage techniques body physiology.

10) Administers traction to relieve pain, using traction equipment.

11) Records treatment, response, and progress in patients chart or enters information into computer.

12) Instructs patient family in treatment procedures to be continued at home.

13) Evaluates, fits, and adjusts prosthetic and orthotic devices recommends modification to Orthotist medical ser. 078.261-018.

14) Confers with physician other practitioners to obtain additional patient information, suggest revisions in treatment program, and integrate physical therapy treatment with other aspects of patients health care.

15) Orients, instructs, and directs work activities of assistants, aides, and students.

16) May plan and conduct lectures and training programs on physical therapy related topics for medical staff, students, and community groups.

17) May plan and develop physical therapy research programs participate in conducting research.

18) May write technical articles reports for publications.

19) May teach physical therapy techniques procedures in educational institutions.

20) May limit treatment to specific patient group or disability or specialize in conducting physical therapy research.

21) In facilities where assistants are also employed, may primarily administer complex treatment, like certain types of manual exercises functional training, and monitor administration of other treatments.

22) May plan, direct, and coordinate physical therapy program be designated Director, Physical Therapy medical ser. .

23) Must comply with state requirement for licensure..
