This job description (JD) describes the core job duties of industrial designer occupation:

Main Job Roles (Career Tasks):

1) Originates develops ideas to design the form of manufactured products.

2) Reads publications, attends showings and consults with engineering, marketing, production and sales representatives to establish design concepts.

3) Evaluates design ideas based on factors like appealing appearance, design-function relationships, serviceability, materials methods engineering, application, budget, price, production costs, methods of production, market characteristics and client specifications.

4) Integrates findings and concepts sketches design ideas.

5) Presents design to client or design committee and discusses need for modification change.

6) May design product packaging graphics for advertising.

7) May build simulated model, using hand and power tools various materials.

8) May prepare illustrations.

9) May prepare or coordinate preparation of working drawings from sketches design specifications.

10) May design products for custom applications.

11) May be required to have specialized product knowledge.

12) Usually specializes in specific product or type of product including, but not limited to hardware, motor vehicle exteriors and interiors, scientific instruments, industrial equipment, luggage, jewelry, housewares, toys, or novelties is designated accordingly..
