Medical Administrative Assistant Career Job Description Duties Example

This job description describes core job duties of medical administrative assistant occupation.

Main Job Roles / Career Tasks:

1) Schedule appointments for patients.

2) Take detailed clinical phone messages for physician or advanced allied healthcare provider.

3) Acquire authorizations for procedures tests ordered by attending physician.

4) Prepare prescription refill requests on behalf of the physician for the review approval by the ordering physician.

5) Assist in the maintenance of medical charts rescords - filing, Op Reports, test results, and home care forms.

6) Schedule surgeries/procedures or work in conjunction with Surgical Coordinator verifying times with patients; preparing charts, pre-admissions consent forms as necessary.

7) Retrieve physician correspondence from dictation service; editing where necessary.

8) Responsible for checking schedules and organizing patient flow; accompanying patients to exam/procedure room, assisting patients as needed with walking, transferring and dressing, and collecting and processing specimens point of care testing, and preparing for exam.

9) Assist physicians with various procedures; taking vital signs, relaying instructions to patients and or families; answering calls providing pertinent information.

10) Prepare physicians mail correspondence.

11) Compile documents for surgical billing packages.

12) Responsible to maintain, adjust confirm patient office schedule.

13) Help direct patient flow during practice hours.

14) Participate in revenue cycle processes.
